Busy times

Hello everyone!

Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet but life is MANIC! I’ve been soooo busy at work. You know when you just go into auto-pilot mode and you leave work for the day and you have no idea what just happened. Yeah, I’m having one of those.

But anyhoo, so I had quite the busy busy weekend. Friday, the fiance and I decided we didn’t feel like going home to watch our regular Isidingo soapie (that shit is good ok, don’t judge) so instead we went for a few drinks at Spiggies new side bar. What a beautiful space! Its completely different to the usual Spiggies vibe with its modern rustic face brick (I kept calling it brickface..hahaha. i find that a lot funnier than it actually is) look and outside area with hanging planters. Its an awesome modern space and perfect to hire out for birthdays, or any kind of function. And their cocktails are super yum!

Saturday I had my bridesmaids over again for a bit of wedding crafting. It turned out to be a cold rainy day so it was PERFECT conditions!

no child labour here!

It was quite the successful day with 39 pillows done and dusted. Only a gazillion more to go!

Sunday the fiance ran his first marathon. It was a grueling experience but I’m very proud of him for finishing! (he’s entered the comrades, FYI)

Monday night it was back to wedding dress sewing. My poor mother had a few panic moments and freak out sessions as she had no idea what was going on. Not the ideal situation for wedding dress making! But calm was restored and all was back on track.

Dress Shopping

You guys! Let me just tell you that going wedding dress shopping is super fun. In fact, I would like to make a career out of it…..mental note….

So as most wedding-obsessed girls I knew exactly what my dress would look like. I had the picture and fabric swatch READY! Until…..I went dress shopping. Durban has surprized me with the quality and stunning dresses on offer and I have most definitely changed my mind on what I wanted! I rounded up my all my girls and hit the streets! I definitely recommend booking a fitting first with your chosen stores.

my beautiful bridesmaids

The first store we went to was Sposabella (http://www.sposabellakzn.co.za/contentpage.aspx?pageid=6090). What a lovely experience. The staff there are so friendly and so patient! I mustve tried on about 10 dresses (some stores limit you to only 4-5 dresses). The assistant just carried on smiling, squeezing my size 12 body into a size 8 dress (the dress was really pretty ok) and making me feel like that skinny bitch I aspire to become. I was, however, terrified of ripping said dress and quickly waddled my way back to the changing room to get that thing off me! There were so many dresses to choose from my brain felt like exploding! Having said that, the dresses look very different when its on the mannequin but once you put them on, they do tend to look similar as its easy to miss those finer details that set them apart. I am dyyiiing to post some pics of the dresses I had tried on, but the fiance gave strict instructions that he didnt want to see me in anything weddingy before the big day.

The next shop we went to was the fabric shop on Musgrave Road. In terms of wedding dresses, I couldnt pick a single dress I wanted to try on but in terms of their fabric! Oh glory do they have beautiful fabric. In fact, I went back there and bought the fabric for my dress there.

The next and final store was Bride & Co in Umhlanga (http://www.brideandco.co.za/). What I liked most about this store was that it was big and spacious and more than one bride could take a little look around at all the beautiful dresses.

at Bride & Co

There was a huge variety of dresses and I had a lot of fun trying on dresses I usually wouldn’t. They have a strict no-photos policy which is quite understandable but when you see some of those dresses you just need to take a dam photo! My mom and maid of honour went into full on CIA stealth mode and managed to take a million photos of me in a particular dress which I absolutely loved. They made me proud.

Afterwards we went for much needed drinks at Lucky Shakers (http://luckyshaker.com/). If you havent been to lucky shakers you better get your ass over there! Every week they buy fresh veggies, and make all their own mixes for the week, so everything is fresh and organic. It definitely tastes it as well.

So all in all it was a very successful day. I have THE dress and its already in the making. My lovely mother will be making my dress with the help of a professional seamstress.

dress in the making!

Fingers crossed it all works out!

Look at mah face!

That’s the face of a pro runner! Gah haha not! That’s the face of an unfit human barely managing a 5km run!

IMG_6714

Since I met the fiancé, I picked up an impressive 12kg….I know….so now that we are getting married, I WILL lose all unwanted 12kgs again! So this regime has included 3-4 runs a week and whatever I can squeeze in between, like weights or a little bit of yoga. Our eating habits have changed drastically as well. It’s not actually all that difficult to lose weight…it’s just shit! I want to be a skinny bitch on pizza and wine dammit! Clearly that’s too much to ask…

Anyway, up to date I have lost 3.5kg….woohoo! Here’s to the next 8.5kg fat wobbles!

Now to reward myself with a glass of wine…

Musgrave Night Market

Hello all you beautiful people!

So Friday we went to the Musgrave Roof Top market, which happens on the first Friday of every month.

IMG_6727

This market is much smaller than your usual I Heart Market etc but I gotta say, I really enjoyed it. The venue itself (parking lot) actually lent a lot of space and because there weren’t as many stalls, it meant that there was an abundance of space for you to have a little look around. They had really rad live music in the center of all the buzz. Cute bunting stretched across the space with loads of hay bails to sit and hang around on.

Of course a market wont be the same with our ever so colourful Falafel Fundi. These wraps were so big neither of us could finish it! (note to self, dont keep them wraps for later or you will find a soggy mess waiting for you)

IMG_6764 IMG_6765

There were some really great stalls, ranging from a cute little sweets table, to mens and women’s clothing. The ever so creative Dandelion was there (and of course I couldnt leave without purchasing a little somesome).

I would definitely recommend this little market for a relaxed Friday night out.

Night Market

Happy Friday lovely people!

Tonight we are off to the Musgrave Roof Top Market. It happens on the first Friday of every month between 5 – 9:30PM. Fingers crossed the weather holds out!

Thanks Eskom for saving on our electricity bill, also for putting our direct neighbours under a different block ensuring they have power when we don’t. Assholes.

the venue

hello everyone!

So, let’s talk wedding venue. Finding the right wedding venue has proved to be a lot more difficult than one can expect! Lets face it, most girls have a pret-ty good idea of their dream wedding long before they get engaged (what, was I the only one??). Anyway, so when it came to venue shopping I had a good idea of what I wanted. I was looking for your moden, warehouse kind of atmosphere. Something big and rustic. Well its easy to know what you want, but finding it is another story. In fact, I lie, I found the PERFECT venue! It was too perfect. It wasnt a wedding venue at all so when I emailed them and pitched my idea they were quite interested. Until they mentioned that they couldnt fully commit to my date and will advise closer to the time….excuse me? This is a wedding were talking about people! Venue is number one! I then also couldnt have my wedding on a Saturday. So it turned out not so perfect and decided I didnt want the unnecessary stress. I then asked if I could perhaps have my photos taken there….”sorry mam, we are not open for any kind of photography”. Its not the paprazzi! Just some wedding photos for private viewing. Moving along!

So the fiance and I decided to take a little trip through town and look at some possible venues. If I remember correctly, his exact words at the one venue were “if we dont leave now I am going to puke all over this place”. yeah, this was going great.

I decided to take my mom on the next trip. We had a look at a few hotels and restaurants but nothing really interested me. We decided on our plan B venue at the end of the day, which was Market restaurant (http://www.themarketrestaurant.co.za/). Its such a stunning venue and we’ve been to a wedding there before, which was absolutely gorgeous! I was happy with the choice and started planning the wedding. Very soon, without realising it, our wedding just started snowballing into this big massive occassion. Costs were getting so high so quickly and next thing I knew, I was busy planning a wedding that I actually didnt want at all. This was freaking me out. One night I was tossing and turning and just couldnt sleep until it hit me. I jumped up from bed, realising that that didnt wake up the fiance. So I started with strategically loud *sighs*….hes awake….”oh sorry love, did I wake you?” (ehehehe). And offered him the choice of whether he wanted to hear my thoughts now or wait till the morning….he went with choice 1 (such a good fiance) so I started rambling on about my new concept to which I just got a slight murmur at the end.

So, at the end end of the day, we decided to have our wedding at The Berghouse and Cottages (http://berghouse.co.za/). Now for any of you who havent been there before…do!yourself!a favour! Its the most divine setting with the most wonderful family as your hosts. We’ve both been there before and just fell inlove with it. I cant believe this wasnt my number one choice. You can’t help but feel relaxed when you are there. We will be having a whole wedding weekend away with our family and friends. How amazing.

Some snaps for our spot:

So at the end of the day, we ended up with a venue we never expected, and the type of wedding I didnt initially set out to plan. But I couldnt be more happier with our decisions and am just so excited for our big day!

the engagement!

So as mentioned before, I am in my early days of planning our wedding. We got engaged 29 August 2014 on a weekend away in the bush.

the happy couple!

We got engaged at Mpila Camp (http://www.mpilacamp.co.za/). It was not expected at all as we have booked to go away that weekend about 5 months prior to that.

I had this whole teasing joke with the fiance about a very expensive bottle of wine which his brother gave to us as a gift. At the back of this bottle it had a timeline graph of when the optimum usage is. So from 2014 onwards was the best time to consume this wine. I had then started teasing him that that bottle can only be drunk on one special occasion and it wasnt his 30th! (he turned 30 in 2014). It became a whole joke with the family. He didnt appreciate it.

For two weeks before our weekend away he had been plotting with our whole family behind my back, trying to get the perfect ring! I had no idea everyone was in on it!

So when the big moment arrived, I was sitting, wrapped up in a cozy blanket around the fire drinking some wine. When it was time to refill my glass, he politely offered to fill it for me. I didnt think anything of the fact that he went into our tent to fill my glass and not the kitchen. Next thing he stood in front of me, showing me the bottle of wine, saying “I think you know what this means”. Before I could register what was going on he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him. And then the typical happened, snot en trane! It took me a moment to say yes.

But I have to admit, going from girlfriend to fiance is a super strange feeling! We both felt really weird about it. In a good way of course. The next day we were out on the road in the game reserve for a good 8 hours, and I think we spoke about 50 words to each other the whole day! We were both quite freaked out by this new state of affairs. But it was nice that we both felt exactly the same. So grown up!

That feeling wore off by the next day and I couldnt wait to talk wedding for the next 4 hours on the drive back with just the two of us! haha. He loved that.

Hello world!

Featured image

Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog. This is my first post, ever, so please go easy on me.

Ive always wanted to start a blog and in the last couple of months that little voice just got louder and louder, so I finally looked into it and here I am! The main reason is that I am always busy getting up to something. Whether it’s crafting and making stuff, experiencing new things, going on new adventures, there’s just always something, and I’ve always wanted to be able to share that. Currently I am planning my wedding (YAY for weddings!) and would love to share that journey on some platform so that I one day I can read back on that time that I nearly wanted to kill every person around me, or fell inlove with all the sequin and glitter of the lands!

Another reason is also due to my lack of memory and thought what a great way to document my life.

So you can expect lots of photos and adventures and just general randomness. I do hope you enjoy them!

Until next time….
